Health

This course will be based on seven personal and social health skills: self management, relationship management, stress management, communication, planning and goal setting, decision making, and advocacy. Specific functional knowledge will be presented regarding nutrition, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sexual risk, family life education, unintentional injury and violence prevention

Physical Education

CHS physical education teaches lifelong health and fitness through movement and skill development. All tracks are student centered providing each participant with the opportunity to succeed, develop character, gain confidence and acquire decision making skills.

New York State Commissioners Regulations  require that all students attend and participate in physical education each semester in grades 9-12.


 Grade 9

All freshmen participate in a FFL (Fitness for Life) track. They will acquire knowledge about the benefits of physical activity and personal wellness. They will learn: the components of health and skill related fitness, how to evaluate their physical fitness, set goals and plan a program that will enhance their lifestyle. Students will participate in a variety of lifetime and team activities that focus on the skill components of fitness.

Physical Education - Lifetime Sports

This curriculum highlights the importance of lifetime physical fitness and leisure time activities. Lifetime Sports activities will focus on court and field games. Examples of these activities include: Archery, badminton, volleyball, project adventure, swimming, golf, and fitness. This class will also promote the significance of performance, rules/etiquette, and sportsmanship.

Physical Education - Team Sports

This curriculum focuses on team sports such as: Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, Floor hockey, Pickle-ball, Speedball, Volleyball, & Lacrosse. This class encourages teamwork, cooperation, and development of leadership skills through skill development, rule application, and physical movement.
