    About the Teacher
This is my eighth year at the middle school teaching 6th grade mathematics.  I believe that all children should be supported in a way that allows them to feel successful and enjoy learning.  My goal is to help each child feel confident in his/her abilities and find successful methods for learning.  This is going to be a great year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns by phone or email.

    Math
The sixth grade math course is the beginning of a formal approach to solving math problems.  The emphasis is not the answer to a math problem, but rather the steps to reach the solution. Operational competency continues to be taught with a focus on decimal and fraction operations.  Other topics include rational numbers, geometry, ratio and proportional relationships, algebra-readiness concepts, statistics and probability.  Topics are closely aligned with the Common Core State Standards that can be found at EngageNY.org.  Sixth grade students will take the New York State Math Assessment.  In addition, a cumulative midterm at the end of 20 weeks and a cumulative final exam at the end of the year.

       Questions
    • Does your child know their multiplication facts through 12's?
    • Can he/she divide with two-digit divisors?
    • Does he/she understand the difference between a fraction and a whole number? A decimal and a whole number?
    • Can he/she perform basic operations using decimal numbers?
*Review of these skills should be part of your child's study routine at home until proficiency is achieved.
