Classroom Information
The
ELA course will be an eight-unit course that delves deeply into
carefully-chosen fiction and nonfiction selections as to deepen
students' understanding and appreciation of the power of the written
word. Throughout the year, students will read, study, and produce a
persuasive essay, compare themes across genres, study the proper format
of reports and write one of their own, dive into the sophisticated &
timeless poems of Frost, Nye, Hughes, etc. and plan and write their own
short story.
FINAL EXAM 2016: The exam is a "performance" exam, meaning it is comprised of short reading passages and short-answer writing tasks. There is no substantial CONTENT that the students need to study and memorize, like for a science or SS exam. We will REVIEW in class, making sure that the students remember how to write excellent responses that include text evidence and elevated language.
