- Male Athlete of the Year in 1977
- Went on to swim at Auburn University for one year
- Member of the Championship Rope Climbing Team at Auburn
- Attended Virginia Tech and was a member of that swim team for two years
- Founded the Swim America Program

- Coached the undefeated Championship Football team of 1969
