Welcome to Latin at CMS!
Grade 7 Latin
This course is an introduction to the study of the Latin language and the ancient Romans. Students will engage in spoken Latin activities as the basis for class lessons and will use those activities to study: daily life vocabulary (greetings, introductions, classroom, family, house/home), Roman history, Roman culture, and basic grammar.
8th grade Latin is the culmination of Latin I, which was started in 7th grade. Those two years of study comprise the first unit of a three-unit high school language sequence. Students continue the study of: grammar, derivation, and history started in Grade 7 in addition to increased exposure to Roman literature. Students also learn about culture topics including Roman dining, Roman families, Roman society, and myths and legends. Successful completion of Latin I earns students high school graduation credit.
