• Grade K - 1 - 2 Rubrics

    Run

4 – Displays a level of performance where arms and legs demonstrate opposition with superior control and flow

3 – Arms swing in opposition with feet forward and back, feet land softly and absorb shock of landing, feet are straight, run is coordinated and smooth

2 – Arms swing in opposition, but swing side to side or are stiff - stride is not smooth and coordinated

1 – Arms not in opposition to feet, cannot run smoothly

    Jump

4 – Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow – balance, landing and take off

3 – Can jump continually with good balance landing and take off

2 – Can jump continuously – may stop or lose balance

1 – Has difficulty jumping with balance takeoff and landing

    Hop on Right/ Left Foot

4 – Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control in flow and balance

3 – Can hop continuously with good flow and balance

2 – Can hop but occasionally loses balance or stops

1 – Has difficulty hopping – little or no flow and loss of balance

    Gallop Right/Left Foot Lead

4 – Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow – lead foot and trail foot in proper relationship – rhythmic movement

3 – Can gallop with good balance and rhythmic movement

2 – Can gallop but movement is interrupted or non- rhythmic

1 – Has difficulty galloping – non rhythmic, balance loss – interrupted movement

    Skip

4 – Step hop using one side of the body then the other – heels do not touch ground – arms swing high in opposition to legs and at no time are both in front of the body at the same time – follows a straight path – rhythmic movement – superior control and flow

3 – Step hop using one side of body  then the other – heels occasionally touch the ground – arms sometime swing at a medium height in opposition to legs – other times both arms are in front at the same time – follows a straight path

2 – Step hop using one side of the body – heels touch ground – arms and hand swing is random – path may not be straight – loss of balance – segmented and inconsistent movement

1 – Both feet step or it look like a gallop – heels always touch the ground – no arm swing – flat foot landing – looks like galloping or running

    Overhand Throw

4 – faces sideward to wall – arm is cocked brushing back by ear – elbow is bent – steps forward in opposition as arm comes forward – hips twist toward target as weight is transferred

3 – Cocks arm brushing back near ear – elbow is bent – steps forward in opposition as arm comes forward

2 – Has opposite foot forward but does not do so while executing throw – throw is underhand or sidearm – no upper body twist

1 – Underhand or sidearm throw – steps with the same side foot – no twist – elbow is in front on prep

    Catch (a lightly thrown ball)

4 – Eyes on the ball – moves to catch ball – catches with hands only and elbow bent – brings ball into chest

3 – Eyes on ball but may flinch – reaches to catch ball and does not move feet – catches with hands

2 – Eyes closed – turns head away – does not move to catch ball – arms straight or traps ball on body

1 – Cannot TRACK  the object – cannot catch even with using body as backstop

Kick (a slowly rolled ball using a moving approach)

4 – Moves toward ball – has a clear plant foot – transfer of weight - strikes ball with top or side of foot – smooth and controlled  follow-though – movement is with control and flow

3 – Slow or uneven moving approach – kicks ball top or side of foot – good contact

2 – Non-moving approach – kicks with toe – contact is erratic – ball is not struck cleanly

1 – Non-moving approach – no movement – no clean contact – uses toe – cannot kick ball forward

    Strike (a moving ball)

4 – Non-dominant shoulder faces thrower, horizontal swing with hand or hands, sequential rotation, transfer of weight with small step, clearly tracks ball – smooth follow-through

3 – Non dominant shoulder faces thrower – horizontal swing with one or two hands, feet still, good contact, eyes track the ball

2 – Trunk faces thrower – nearly horizontal swing, difficulty making contact – eyes somewhat tract the object

1 – Trunk faces thrower – chopping motion, cannot make contact – cannot track ball.
