Rubric Guidelines - Primary Grades 1 and 2
RUN
4 - Displays a level of performance where arms and legs demonstrate opposition with superior control and flow.
3 - Arms swing in opposition with feet forward and back, feet land softly and absorb shock of landing, feet are straight, run is coordinated and smooth.
2 - Arms swing in opposition, but swing side to side or are stiff, stride is not smooth of coordinated.
1 - Arms not in opposition with feet, can not run smoothly at this time.
JUMP
4 - Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow.
3 - Can jump continuously with good balance.
2 - Can jump continuously, but may stop to regain balance.
1 - Has difficulty jumping or can not jump at this time
HOP R & L
4 - Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow.
3 - Can hop continuously with good balance.
2 - Can hop continuously, but may stop to regain balance.
1 - Has difficulty hopping or can not hop at this time.
GALLOP R & L
4 - Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow.
3 - Can gallop continuously with good balance.
2 - Can gallop continuously, but may stop to regain balance.
1 - Has difficulty galloping or can not gallop at this time.
SKIP
4 - Skips rhythmically, shows superior control and flow of movement.
3 - Skips consistent pattern, foot placement is smooth with some irregular rhythm.
2 - Same side skip, segmented alternate skip, inconsistent movement pattern.
1 - Runs, gallops or hops, can not skip at this time.
OVERHAND THROW
4 - Faces sideward to wall, arm is cocked brushing back by the ear, elbow is bent, steps forward in opposition as arm comes forward, hips twist toward target as weight is transferred.
3 - Cocks arm brushing back near ear, elbow is bent, steps forward in opposition as arm comes forward.
2 - Has opposite foot forward but does not do so before executing throw, opposite foot is forward but arm pattern is underhand or side-arm.
1 - Arm follows an underhand or side-arm pattern and/or does not throw in opposition at this time.
CATCH - a lightly thrown ball
4 - Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow.
3 - Catches the ball five times with the hands, moves hand when necessay.
2 - Catches the ball three-four times with the hands, catches with arms or traps the ball against the body.
1 - Catches the ball less than two times with the hands or can not catch the ball at this time.
KICK - A slowly rolled ball using a moving approach
4 - Displays a level of performance beyond proficiency by demonstrating superior control and flow.
3 - With a non-stop moving approach, kicks the ball squarely.
2 - Steps toward the ball and makes contact with the ball using their foot, but does not kick the ball squarely.
1 - does not move toward the ball and/or is not able to contact the ball with their foot at this time.
STRIKE - A Ball
4 - Non-dominant shoulder faces thrower, horizontal swing with hand or hands, sequential rotation, transfer of weight with a small step.
3 - Non-dominant shoulder faces thrower, horizontal swing with hand or hands, feet stationary.
2 - Trunk faces thrower, nearly horizontal swing with hand or hands.
1 - Trunk faces thower, chopping motion with hand or hands.
