"Smile Rock” Behavior EXPECTATIONS
1. Follow directions the first time they are given!
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.
3. Listen when your teacher is talking.
4. Respect yourself, others, and your school.
5. Be safe, kind and honest.
During the first week of school, we will spend a significant amount of time developing the students’ understanding of what these rules mean.
I believe students thrive on positive recognition and praise. I will work hard to create an environment of friendship and respect in my classroom. I will teach students that life is about choices - making good choices is key. If your child has difficulty making good choices or if problems occur at school, I will let you know.
Our behavior system is called "Smile Rock" Behavior. We will discuss how our classroom is a community that works together to make sure each child learns and grows. If a child is making good choices, he/she earns a hand-painted smile rock to display on their desk for the whole day. Multiple Smile Rocks can be earned daily. This is a constant reminder to the children that they have to have self-control, are responsible for their actions and behavior, and are being a good role model. The children quickly realize how they must conduct themselves in order to achieve the goal of earning and KEEPING at least 1 Smile Rock per day.If your child is not making good choices, Smile Rocks will be taken away until he/she demonstrations the above Behavior Expectations and an alternate behavior system will be put in place for that child.
