Overview: Welcome to English 12 Regents! I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you during this upcoming school year. 12th grade English is a very important year in your high school career. You will encounter many challenges throughout the year: not limited to, but including- college admissions applications, transitioning from high school to college and completing your academic career here at Clarence High School. We will work intensively together in order to prepare for all of these coming challenges; however, we will also read some very interesting texts and (as those of you that already know me can attest) we will have some very lively discussions.
Course Objective: The object of English 12 Regents is to help you to become diversified readers and writers by studying an assortment of literary genres. We will accomplish the following goals by the end of the course:
v Analyzing and interpreting samples of writing by identifying and explaining an author’s use of rhetorical strategies and techniques.
v Applying effective strategies and techniques in your writing.
v Demonstrating understanding and mastery of standard written English.
v Writing in a variety of genres and contexts.
