Marvelous Monday, April 6
Good Morning, Everyone!
I was very happy that I was able to talk with so many friends on Friday! I loved your Rainbow Fish posters! Norman did too! Thank you for sharing them with us! I have added a photo page so that everyone can enjoy seeing our friends and their projects! I will continue to share the photos that you send to me.
This week, we will review the short e vowel sound, continue our study of Marcus Pfister's books, look carefully at some ocean animals and watch the weather.
Phonics First
Let's take a look at words in the -et family.
Use your magnetic letters to make these words:
bet get jet let met net pet set wet vet challenge word: fret
You can also watch this video: The Wet Pet https://youtu.be/fh-zRxSG6N8
Reading
When reading on Raz-Kids today, see if you can spot any words in the -et family. Remember looking for chunks or little words in big words is a strategy we can use to help us figure out big words.
Author Study
Last week, we looked at an informational issue of Let's Find Out to learn facts about real rainbow fish. We also read the story The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. In the story, the main character, the Rainbow Fish, learned how important it was to share. Today, let's listen to the story Rainbow Fish to the Rescue. While you listen to the story, think about what Marcus Pfister wants us to learn from this book. https://youtu.be/Gja_mMXU4ao
Norman thought that this book is all about being nice and including others even if they are different. He thought the Rainbow Fish was very brave when he went out to help the little striped fish to safety.
Do you have a connection to this book? Does it remind you of something that happened to you or someone you know?
Which character did you like best?
Which character was the scariest? I thought it was the SHARK! Tomorrow, we will find out about sharks and learn how to draw them.
Math
This week, we will review making the numbers from 11-20.
We can use the IXL website. Today, let's go to IXL Math. Then, find the letter D and try activity 2.
Science
This weekend, I did find some rain in my rain gauge! Did you?
It is fun to watch the clouds. They give us clues about the weather. They move and change shape and sometimes look like objects! Go on a cloud walk today. Are there clouds in the sky? Do you see any clouds that look like something?
Listen to the story Sometimes It Looked Like Spilt Milk. https://youtu.be/IgU-Ktf5c4E
Project
You will need one or two pieces of 9 x 6 blue construction paper and some white paint. Fold your construction paper in half. Write "My cloud looks like ___________. Now, put just a few little drops of white paint on one side of your construction paper. Then, gently fold the paper in half and press lightly. Carefully, open up your paper. Wow! What do you see? What does it look like? When the paint is dry, you can finish your sentence. Did you notice your painting is symmetrical--the left side looks just like the right side.
Have fun!
Tune in tomorrow for Terrrifc Tuesday!
Love,
Miss Arnold
XOXOXO
