Here are this week’s assignments. I hope you were able to catch up and relax a little last week! I can see how much you have been doing. Hopefully, you received your packet in the mail. Use these guidelines to help you pace yourself with the work. Keep doing the best that you can. Feel free to email me with any questions, suggestions, concerns, or good news! I appreciate all of your efforts. You are amazing!

Math
Hopefully you are ready to start Topic 13. You should have the necessary pages to go with the lessons in your packet. I still recommend viewing the Visual Learning Video. I assigned the Interactive Pages in case you prefer that. You do not have to do them if you do the pages in the packet. (Just in case someone didn’t receive the packet, I assigned the Reteach PDF you can print.) In the packet was also examples of a clock you can make, including a template that you can glue on a paper plate. A working clock will help your child master time to the hour and half hour.
Monday: 13-1 Understand the Hour and Minute Hand
Key Understandings: Telling time to the hour, the long hand is the minute hand, and the short hand is the hour hand. When the minute hand points to the 12 we say “o’clock”. To do:
- Visual Learning video
- Interactive Student pages and/or paper reteach page. *Make sure your child draws the minute hand longer than the hour hand. Using 2 different colors, one for minute hand and one for hour hand, is a good idea, too.
- Quick Check-optional mini quiz
Tuesday: 13-2 Tell and Write Time to the Hour
Key Understandings: Write time to the hour using 2 different types of clocks-analog and digital. To do:
- Visual Learning video
- Interactive Student pages (*problem solving 13, 14, and 15 are challenging!) and/or paper reteach page.
- Quick Check-optional mini quiz
Wednesday: 13-3 Tell and Write Time to the Half Hour
Key Understandings: Tell time to the half hour. The minute hand goes half way around, the hour hand moves half way to the next hour (number) - it is half way between the two numbers. There are 60 minutes in an hour and 30 minutes in a half hour. To do:
Warm Up: Count by 5’s to 100
- Visual Learning video
- Interactive Student pages and/or paper reteach page
- Quick Check-optional mini quiz
Thursday: 13-4 Reasoning: Organizing information on a schedule
Key Understandings: Tell and write time in order. To do:
- Visual Learning video
- Interactive Student pages and/or paper reteach page *your child can verbally explain his reasoning in the independent practice
- Quick Check-optional mini quiz
Friday: Clock Matching Game
Either:
Double click and print out this game and play
OR
Write times and have your child show you on the clock he made. Then switch, make times and have your child write the time.
For this topic: IXL letter U numbers 1-6. Number 7 and 8 are challenge sections. These all address time to the hour and half hour. You may want to wait until the end of the unit when your child has had some practice, especially with time to the half hour.
Writing
We are preparing for our next writing unit, writing Realistic Fiction Series Books! Wow! To get ready, I have assigned 2 series on Epic Books (class code: vsb3841): Henry and Mudge and Ready Freddy.
You need to:
- Pick one at least one book and listen to it.
- Notice and note in your writing journal the realistic characters and setting(s).
- Write 2 or 3 events from the story that could really happen in your writing journal. Draw a picture, too!
I hope someone can snap a picture and email me your writing and the realistic story elements that you found!
Keep up the awesome work everybody! I miss you!
Miss Knubbert
