The Clarence High School Orchestra program consists of three groups: Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, comprised of 135 string players.  All groups perform three concerts per year, with occasional added performances (for the past fourteen years, the Symphony has performed before graduation at Kleinhans Music Hall).  The annual string recital will be on Monday, May 20th at 7:00 pm at the Clarence First Presbyterian Church. The Orchestras' concerts this year will be on Tuesday, October 20th, Thursday, January 14th and Wednesday, June 9th.  The Symphony Orchestra will also present a Senior Concerto Concert on Tuesday, April 27th.  All concerts are free and begin at 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium.

Symphony Orchestra and Concert Orchestra meet during every school day (details about both are available on sub-pages), and Chamber Orchestra meets before school on Tuesdays.  Students who are in either of the other ensembles are welcome to participate in Chamber Orchestra, which provides an additional musical opportunity.

Students also receive a group lesson once a week, during which small ensemble, sight-reading, musical concepts and technical proficiency are stressed.

The orchestras go on tours every other year, performing, attending concerts and workshops and doing everything from seeing Blue Man Group to whale watching to seeing museums. We are hoping to get to Boston in April 2021!

All groups are conducted by Douglas Shaw, who can be reached at dshaw@clarenceschools.org.
