Physical Education

NYSED - Clarence CSD Physical Education Plan

Physical Education  is a credit-bearing course that does affect the overall GPA of the student. Physical Education is also a graduation requirement in New York State.

Purpose of Physical Education: 

  • Develop Physical Literacy through the NYS Learning Standards for Physical Education.

    • Exposure to a variety of activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.

    • Develop and learn skills necessary to be competent in healthy activities– Psychomotor Skills

    • Develop and learn the knowledge necessary to be competent in healthy activities– Cognitive Ability

    • Develop and learn attitudes necessary for healthy living– Affective Domain

  • Assist in academic learning through movement. Movement and activity stimulate brain activity and are helpful to the learning process. 

  • Have fun!

  • Reduce stress.

  • Develop social and emotional skills.

New York State Anchor Standards for Physical Education

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Standard 2: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance.

Standard 3: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Standard 4: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

Standard 5: Recognizes the value of physical activity for overall wellness, enjoyment, challenge, and/or self-expression.

Standard 6: Recognizes career opportunities and manages personal and community resources related to physical activity and fitness to achieve and maintain overall wellness
