Curriculum Office

The Office of Curriculum and Instruction supports and advocates for high quality, professional opportunities for our faculty and staff to continue to develop learning new skills. Additional responsibilities include overseeing all components of a quality, district-wide curriculum, the New York State assessment and reporting requirements, and the management of federal and state grants.

In our elementary schools, we focus on the early literacy and language arts skills of our youngest students, ensuring their ability to read, write and think critically in all curricular areas including math, science, social studies, art, music, library skills, and physical education. All students in grades 3 – 8 take an assessment in English Language Arts and Math. A score at level 3 indicates that children are meeting the proficiency standard and a score of level 4 indicates a child is exceeding the standard. In accordance with the Commissioner's Regulations to allow flexibility in districts in the provision of Academic Intervention Services (AIS), the District will provide a Response to Intervention (RtI) program for students who score below the level 3 (Proficient) score on the Grade 3-8 English Language Arts or Mathematics assessments. At the middle school, interdisciplinary teams strive to meet the academic, developmental, and social needs of early adolescents. These teams work closely with students, providing them with appropriate support and a nurturing environment in which to grow. In order to earn a Regents diploma, high school students are required to pass Regents examinations in English, Integrated Algebra, Global History, U. S. History, and a laboratory Science exam. Above and beyond the diverse course offerings at the high school, numerous Advanced Placement (AP) courses, clubs, sports and extracurricular activities are in place to meet the many interests and aspirations of our young adults.
