• Respectful, Responsible and Aware

“The Red Devil Way” represents the positive behaviors we expect from our students.

Clarence High School students are expected to be Respectful, Responsible and Aware-whether it is in the classroom, hallway or as an audience member at an event. As a staff we teach the expected behaviors to the young adults in our building so we can improve the climate and culture of our school community. The expectations have been developed and agreed upon by the staff as an effective way to be proactive in managing behaviors.

“The Red Devil Way” is a positive approach. It is rooted in PBIS - Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. This research-based approach is designed to give schools capacity-building for identifying, adapting, and sustaining effective school-wide disciplinary practices. Students are taught expected behaviors and are recognized for exhibiting these expectations. This recognition can come in many forms. Our approach to PBIS is based upon the following principles:

    • Negative consequences do not always change student attitudes
    • Positive reinforcement of behavior can produce long-term change
    • Negative consequences sometimes increase misbehavior
    • Expected behaviors need to be taught
    • Displaying expected behaviors needs to be recognized no matter how long it takes

Positive school environments are the most effective learning environments and
“The Red Devil Way” of being Respectful, Responsible and Aware will help continue the tradition of excellence Clarence High School has developed.
