    Language Arts/Literacy Curriculum

Our goal is to prepare our students for the adventure of lifelong reading and writing.  Ways we immerse our students in reader's and writer's workshop are:

    • Shared Reading- A way we learn to read books together.

    • Guided Reading - This is when we read in small groups to focus on reading strategies.

    • Read Alouds - An opportunity to foster students' love of many types of literature.

    • Writing - The children write everyday.  Sometimes it may be letter formation, writing together, or journal writing.

    • Phonics - Students learn about the relationship between letters and sounds.

    Science Curriculum

In kindergarten we use formal science units provided by ESP.  These kits are:

    •  Weather
    •  Worms
    •  Pushes & Pulls

We also study other science related topics such as nutrition and animals.

    Social Studies Curriculum

Kindergarten students develop their awareness of themselves and their communities through our Social Studies curriculum.  The areas we discuss are:

    • Myself and Others
    • Families
    • Communities
    • Citizenship
    • Holidays, Traditions, and Various Cultures

Other aspects to our curriculum are Character Education and Conflict Resolution.  These two units run throughout our entire school year.

Students learn to take responsibility for their actions and to solve disputes in a positive way, using words.
