Middle School Vocal

The Clarence Central Schools Choral Program offers small group lessons from eighth grade to twelfth grade. Performance ensemble opportunities are available for students who participate in chorus at the elementary level extending through the middle school and high school levels. General Music classes are required at the elementary and middle school levels.

Middle School Chorus is a performance-based full credit class that meets every day. All students – with the exception of band and orchestra students – are able to participate in sixth and seventh grade chorus, regardless of previous singing experience. Students build upon their elementary music experience by continuing to develop basic singing skills. They are expected to work to the best of their ability to read and interpret written music. Most important and rewarding, is the student’s effort to collaborate with others, to listen, evaluate, improve and create music. Eighth Grade Chorus is the culmination of the middle school choral program. Emphasis placed on further developing fundamental vocal and choral techniques. High standards of performance and the development of critical attitudes are of great importance. Students are exposed to a wide variety of vocal literature and are provided with the opportunity to explore and develop their special abilities in music. This chorus represents the transition to high school, focusing on musicianship and independence in score reading. Eighth grade choral students participate in vocal lessons on a three-week cycle and perform in four concerts a year.
