Clarence High School Student Creates Sign for Clarence Coffee Cart
The Clarence Coffee Cart has a fresh look as it rolls through the halls of Clarence High School, thanks to a new student-designed sign.
The new sign was created by junior Grant Husted, who worked with technology teacher Zachary Meal during study hall periods to create a coffee cart logo and laser engrave the design he created into a plywood board, with three raised Clarence C logos created on a 3D printer. The design incorporates Red Devils imagery like a trident and horns and a mustache on a coffee cup.
“It’s all about the little details that make it better,” Grant said.
The coffee cart, in place at the High School for three years, gives students in the High School’s Life Skills program the chance to build confidence and skills through assembling and delivering staff drink and snack orders each week.
Teacher Jodi Rospierski, who organizes the Clarence Coffee Cart, said she was impressed with Grant’s design and enthusiasm to help.
“The fact he’s supporting a program that doesn’t involve him is really amazing,” she said. “There was no extra reward for him to do this. It was just something that would help someone else out.”
When the request from the Clarence Coffee Cart program came in seeking an additional cart, Meal said his department had an extra cart, and that a sign for the cart seemed like a natural inclusion. Meal said that he noticed Grant’s enthusiasm for art activities when his work was done during his study hall period.
“It’s awesome to have that authentic learning experience in the classroom,” Meal said. “Grant went above and beyond and it shows he cares about his work and applying the skills he’s learned.”
