Clarence Middle School Students Compete at National Science Bowl
Students on Clarence Middle School’s Science Bowl team had the opportunity to learn and compete at the highest level as they participated in the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.
“It’s a very cool experience for these boys to have,” said Daniel Fox, a school counselor who coaches the team. “With all of them having an interest in science, this kind of event encourages them to pursue it into the future.”
This is the second consecutive year that a Clarence team has participated in the event, after qualifying during a regional event in March. Making up this year’s squad were eighth graders Kian Banifatemi, Benjamin Haven, Jaydheep Rajaram, Henry Simon and Orrin Tauriello.
In addition to competing in a wide range of science-related challenges and trivia games, students took time to explore the nation’s capital, including a visit to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and a tour of the U.S. Capitol that included an opportunity to walk on the floor of the House of Representatives.
“It was unreal to be able to observe the history in that room,” Fox said. “They really were in awe that they had that opportunity.”
