Updated

A group of four students at Clarence High School were named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program, reflecting strong scores on the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The four recognized students were Ethan Gay, Jacob Kenefick-Sivic, Laura Kreher and Sophia Vallis. Students who are named Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 of the approximately 1.3 million students at about 21,000 high schools who took the test.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” said a National Merit Scholarship Program Corporation spokesperson. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
