Update from Clarence CSD January 3, 2025
Dear Clarence School Family,
The poet Edith Lovejoy Pierce offered a lovely thought on reflection and intention when she wrote: "We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."
While September is technically the start of a new school year for students, January 1 is the perfect time to reflect, reset, and set goals for growth. I’m sure the past couple days have been spent easing back into school routines, but when you have a chance, I might encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of revisiting academic priorities, adjusting study habits, getting involved in extracurriculars, and celebrating progress as much as perfection.
2025 will be filled with incredible opportunities for our Red Devils to shine and grow. Thanks for your continued support, and here’s to our shared focus on finding ways for all children to thrive in the New Year.
Jennifer Berndt Named “Educator of the Year”
I am excited to share that Jennifer Berndt was recently selected by the Clarence Chamber of Commerce as its “Educator of the Year.” For those of you who might not know Mrs. Berndt, she is a beloved member of our High School Math Department, and she is described by students as kind, funny, and approachable. Mrs. Berndt will be formally honored at the Chamber’s 52nd Annual Awards Gala on March 20, and we invite you to offer her your congratulations if you see her out and about.
High School’s Women in STEM Seminar Grows in Second Year
Right before Holiday Recess, a group of student leaders worked with Mr. Dave Smith to organize a Women in STEM Seminar. Now in its second year, the event featured a panel of seven accomplished Red Devil alum who shared insights from their academic and professional journeys. With experiences in fields like medicine, engineering, and computer science, the panelists offered meaningful advice on building community, overcoming challenges, and taking risks. Close to 60 juniors and seniors attended the panel discussion, and additional information on the Women in STEM Seminar can be found by clicking here.
Wall of Fame Nominations
To honor former members of our school community, our High School has established an Academic Wall of Fame. The program is designed to highlight individuals who have achieved distinction through professional, civic, or humanitarian service, and anyone may submit a nomination.
If you know someone who stands out in one of the following categories, we encourage you to consider nominating them by February 1 by filling out this online form.
- Excellence in their chosen field
- Meritorious service to a humanitarian cause
- Significant contribution to the community
Have a safe and relaxing weekend, Red Devils.
