Update from Clarence CSD November 21, 2025
Updated

Dear Clarence School Family,

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, I know that most of us are in full Turkey Day prep mode—hunting for the perfect bird, planning the menu, and trying to track down that long-lost family recipe that always seems impossible to find. With all that going on, I’ll keep this Friday’s message a little shorter than usual so that you can race to the grocery store before the lines get too long. Please know, however, that we are so thankful for your continued partnership and support. Your focus on students and school is what makes our community truly special.

Cold Water, Warm Hearts

It’s that time of year when our brave Clarence Team gets ready to jump into water with the temperature as cold as a forgotten iced coffee in support of the Special Olympics. The only hiccup is that we’re currently in 5th place. Fifth is fine for a relaxed field day, but it’s not quite where we want to be for the Polar Plunge. If you’ve been thinking about pitching in, this is a perfect moment. Help our unified team climb the leaderboard and plunge their way to a chilly, well-earned victory!

Rave Reviews for Noises Off

I had the chance to see Noises Off last night, and it was a total blast! The cast and crew did an incredible job, and I’d recommend the show for anyone who wants to end their week with a lighthearted night of comedy. Tickets are available online, the curtain goes up at 7:00 p.m., and questions can be sent directly to ticketsales@clarenceschools.org

Students Stuff Food Pantries, Teachers Stuffed in Turkey Suits

The High School Student Council collected more than 1,000 items for the Clarence and Akron food pantries during their annual Dress Your Teacher Like a Turkey food drive. Students and staff worked together to support local families in need, and the generosity was really impressive to observe. Teachers Jennifer Berndt and Jackie Fleming had the most items in their collection boxes, so they’ll be donning turkey suits next week as a fun way to celebrate the school’s spirit and giving community.

A Proud Moment for Clarence Athletics

Clarence alum and current President of the New York State Bar Association, Kathleen Sweet, was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame this month, and her remarks highlighted just how influential athletics have been in her life. She spoke about the “pure joy” that comes from shared goals, teamwork, and the lifelong friendships built through sports. A standout multi-sport athlete and Class of 1983 graduate, Sweet went on to play basketball at Boston College before building a distinguished legal career. She credited her Clarence coaches with pushing her to grow “as an athlete, as a teammate and as a person,” shaping the foundation for her success well beyond the court. It was a proud moment for our community and a reminder of the power of school athletics.

International Night Brings the World to Sheridan Hill

In recent years, International Night at Sheridan Hill has become one of my favorite school events, and last night was no exception. Our school community came together to enjoy food, dancing, learning, and engaged conversations, all while celebrating the many cultures that make Clarence so special. It was an important reminder of the richness of our diversity, and we are grateful to the students, families, and staff who made the evening a success. (Photos courtesy of Mrs. Emily Brotherton!)

Educators Presented with Red Devil Recognitions

On Monday evening, a group of eight individuals received Red Devil Recognitions for demonstrating hard work, respect, kindness, and compassion. Each recipient is an extraordinary educator who helps make our school community a special place to teach and learn. Additionally, our Board had the chance to hear from a group of Harris Hill student leaders. The 5th graders were thoughtful, articulate, and focused on developing the skills needed to change the world for the better.

Finally, please join me in wishing Ainslee Graham (Varsity Diving) and our Boys Varsity Volleyball Team the best of luck as they compete at the State level this weekend!

Hoping this finds you safe, healthy, and well, Red Devils.
