Attendance Policy

The Clarence Central School District's calendar/handbook includes information regarding the attendance policy.

We believe that consistent school attendance plays a large role in student success as does the commitment to a collaborative home and school partnership. Here are steps we encourage you to do at home:

  • Establish and maintain daily routines that include completing homework, preparing materials for the next school day, and ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep.
  • Arrive on time each morning, no later than 7:55 a.m., so your child can begin the day calmly and confidently.
  • Avoid scheduling vacations or appointments during the school day whenever possible, as missed instructional time can be difficult to replicate.

Please note:
Families should not expect teachers to prepare assignments in advance for unexcused absences such as family vacations. Much of what happens in the classroom involves teacher-led instruction, guided practice, peer collaboration, and immediate feedback—learning experiences that cannot be duplicated through worksheets or independent tasks.

If your child will be absent for an extended period, teachers will encourage them to read grade-level appropriate books to help maintain essential literacy and thinking skills. Upon returning, teachers will support students in making up key work and understanding core concepts as appropriate.
