One School One Book 2024

Dog Days

Dear Sheridan Hill families,

On May 6th, our school will be embarking on our 6th annual all-school book club! Every family will receive a copy of The Carver Chronicles: Dog Days (sent home TODAY the youngest child in the family) and will be invited to read it together at home over the next few weeks.

Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader. It is also a fun and worthwhile family activity. With this whole school book club, Sheridan Hill is aiming to build a community of readers at school. Everyone- students, parents, teachers, and even myself will be following along together.

The title of the book, The Carver Chronicles: Dog Days by Karen English, was revealed to your child(ren) during our leadership gathering on Monday, May 6th. The book is the 1st in the Carver Chronicles series. This novel focuses on honesty, hard-work, bullying, and relationship building. Along with the book, each family will receive a reading calendar and a bookmark with daily reading assignments. Typically, each chapter takes about 15 minutes to read.

Each day on morning announcements, students will be invited to answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive listening. In class, students may also explore the book through activities and discussion. If there are nights that you as a family find it difficult to come together and read, students can “tune in'' to the school webpage where they can hear the chapter being read by one of our very own teachers and staff! You can access our One School One Book Website, by clicking on the “Welcome to Sheridan Hill” tab on the “Sheridan Hill” webpage to the left of our homepage.

The teachers and staff at Sheridan Hill know that you will enjoy this special reading time with your children. With your help, we can build a community of readers throughout our school!

Sincerely,

Jenna M. Arroyo
