Each year Sheridan Hill celebrates Flag Day with a parade and a special fundraiser for the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight. This organization sends veterans with a family member on a one-day trip to visit the memorials in Washington, DC. The students at Sheridan Hill also each create a post card for the veterans to read at mail call while at the Capitol.
This year, students raised close to $2000 (with donations still coming in) for the Honor Flight missions. Children raised money by completing extra chores around the house and were proud to donate their earnings. Some students were even inspired by the school wide book club, The Lemonade War, to open lemonade stands and donate their proceeds to the cause. This is true leadership and citizenship at work from the SH student body!
